Florals for a Century Barn Wedding: Here's How It All Came Together
Barn weddings have a reputation for being relaxed and effortless, but anyone who has worked in a century barn knows there’s much more to it than that.
Century barns have a character all their own. Exposed beams, weathered wood, natural textures, and decades of history create a beautiful setting, but they also require floral designs that feel like they belong in the space. The right flowers enhance the venue. The wrong ones can feel disconnected from it.
Over the years, we've designed florals for many barn weddings throughout Ontario, and each one requires a different approach than a ballroom or traditional event hall. The goal is always to work with the venue rather than against it.
This particular wedding was one of our favourites, and we're excited to share how it came together.
What a Century Barn Asks of the Flowers
The venue itself sets the tone. Natural wood, rustic textures, and soaring ceilings create an atmosphere that calls for florals with movement and personality. In these spaces, organic arrangements often feel more natural than highly structured designs.
Flowing greenery, layered textures, and garden-inspired blooms help create designs that feel effortless while still being carefully planned.
For this wedding, the couple came to us with a clear vision and took the time to discuss every detail during the planning process. That collaboration helped us create florals that matched exactly what they had imagined for their wedding day.
Walking Through the Wedding Day
As always, the bridal bouquet was the starting point for the entire floral design. For a barn wedding, we created a bouquet with plenty of movement and natural shape, giving it a romantic look that felt perfectly suited to the venue.
The bridesmaids’ bouquets followed the same overall style and colour palette but with a slightly more understated design. They complemented the bridal bouquet while maintaining their own elegant presence.
For the ceremony setup, we focused on highlighting the beauty that already existed within the barn. Rather than filling every corner with flowers, we used carefully placed arrangements that enhanced the venue’s architecture and natural charm.
The reception featured a mix of centrepiece styles throughout the room. Some arrangements added height, while others created a more intimate feel at table level. The variety added warmth and visual interest without overwhelming the space.

What Couples Are Saying
Nothing speaks louder than the experiences of couples we've worked with.
"Merissa and team are incredible to work with and always go above and beyond. They are friendly, responsive, creative, and willing to work within a budget to make any event successful."

"You perfectly captured our vision, and the design process was seamless from start to finish. On the day of the wedding, your team was at the venue early, setting up everything with such care and precision. The flowers were breathtaking."
— Chad Harmer
Those reviews reflect the standard we strive for at every wedding. Careful planning, thoughtful execution, and florals that leave a lasting impression.
Planning a Century Barn Wedding?
Barn venues remain some of the most sought-after wedding locations in Ontario, which means availability can disappear quickly. The same is true for experienced wedding florists.
The earlier you begin the floral planning process, the more opportunity you'll have to create a design that truly reflects your vision.
Start by browsing our Wedding Gallery, where you'll find real weddings from a variety of venues and styles throughout Clarington and Durham Region.

The Part That Makes It All Worth It
Every wedding has a moment just before guests arrive when everything is finally in place.
The flowers are arranged, the tables are set, and the venue feels transformed. In a century barn, that moment carries a unique atmosphere. The light filters through the space differently, the wood tells its own story, and the room feels ready to welcome a new chapter for the couple.
After all these years, that moment never gets old.
If you're planning a century barn wedding and want a florist who will listen to your ideas, guide you through the process, and create flowers that feel perfectly at home in your venue, we'd love to help.
